Don't want to give away any advantage, however the conehead and dumbell-eye flies may sink too fast for rancho Seco. The big Donaldsons generally cruise higher in the water column and the lake isn't that deep. You may want to modify the flies to be less dense and heavy.

Oh, and generally sizes 28-22 or 3/0-8/0 work best!

SHig, thanks!! I'll make sure to modify it so it suspends just below the surface on an 8/0 hook.

Hmmmmm. Casting that big cone head was a pain in the ass anyway! Better?:

The trout I caught last year was over 6 pounds and was caught in water maybe one or two feet deep. And the only reason I caught that fish was because Ed said "hey Scott cast right there" I did cast right there and I think I hit the fish right on the nose, the fish was less than two feet from shore.

When I fish Seco I use an intermediate line with a super light fly on about a size 8 hook. And if you have never caught a Donaldson rainbow you are in for a bit of fun, these are good fighting fish.

Wolleybugger, I can guarantee your fly will catch fsh because I have used your fly at Seco and caught fish, plus olive and/or green is m favorite to throw.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

That one will work just fine.

    Jake: Hit it.

Does anyone know is they have stocked the lake yet this year? I'd like to head out there tomorow and do some fishing but I know that would be a waste of time if the first fish of the season are going in right before the tournament.

I do not believe DFG has planted there yet. You may want to try Willow Hill in Folsom next to the high school it got planted last week.

Bold choice for catching fresh planters in stillwater. The roster is looking good! Hopefully I can make it Sunday. In the meantime, I'm working on a possible "outside the box" choice if I do.
