anyone caught any trout?
Just wondering. I heard the lower Sacramento/Feather are slow. How about the American? Putah?
-
if you put your time in on the sac you will catch fish. egg bite is about over so it's time to throw the bugs. What can be rewarding this time of year on the lower river (below anderson) is that you have a good chance of hooking a metalhead.
havent fished any of the other watersheds to give you an accurate report. tightlines.

i just went to putah. i enjoy small streams and technical fishing, but that is a place i will never return to. there is alot of private areas so some places are hard to access, and the fishing just isnt all that fun imho....
good luck

Agreed Little Striper. I used to fish Putah quite a bit around
8-9 years ago. It's actually where I cut my teeth on fly fishing
and nymphing. Back then it "seems" like the fishing was way
better and less people. But with all the trash and crowds, I just
don't have the desire anymore...rather get skunked on the A
or lower Yuba vs. fishing Putah.
I have heard that they are trying to make it fully C&R, which
would be great. It's sad to see people walking out with a
stringer of some real large fish during the "keep" part of the season.
My .02 cents.

Lower Sac
Last weekend the Lower Sac River was at 5400cfs,
Launched at Bonnyview and it was just me in the boat so I had to anchor up or bank the boat to fish.
2nd riffle below the launch, I anchored, waded, and cast a parachute baetis under the trees on the bank...two rainbows about 13 inches.
Drifted (and rowed a lot in slow water) to just above the sewer plant. Caught two on a Red-beadhead rubber-legged PT (size 8 ) that were 10 and 13 inches long...lost a couple of fish (seemed larger) on the 1st run that I never saw...just felt...stayed there a couple hours, got checked by Fish & Game (sneaky guys in a Ro drift boat with a big & quiet, electric motor).
Drifted to the take out at Sac RV park stopping to fish the gravel bars at a couple of islands along the way...more grabs (including some real small fish that couldn 't hook themselves, even on the size 18 micro nymph) but no more to hand.
Working this weekend or I'd be going back.

I love it. Yeah putah is dead, Just go fish the other valley tailwaters ! As for pvt. property you are wrong, Every single inch of the 4 mile interdam reach is accesible to the wading angler.

I neva' said it was dead. The post on the shocking of Putah
showed that. Still some big fish in there. I just don't think it's as good
as it was a half dozen years ago.

Last Sunday on the Sac between Redding and a little south of Anderson, a friend and I had about 20 on the line and brought about 10 to the side of the boat. (Most of the ones that got away were mine. I am definitely a novice fisherman.) - Mark
