The biggest steelhead I have heard of in the last few years in California was three years ago on the Trinity. A casual acquaintance of mine fishing with a guide I know well hooked and landed a wild buck on a fly that measured 37 and 1/4 inches and was estimated at 16+ pounds. I have heard that the biggest fish in the Klamath system make a right turn and go up the Trinity.

That's a big fish for the T...but larger fish are caught every year in California. Think Smith, Eel, etc. 20lbers are not that rare up there. There are also some pigs that head up a few of the less advertised rivers.

What made the fish in this thread extraordinary is that is was [supposedly] from the Valley.

    See ya,
    Mike
