Hello everyone

I've been lurkin' around here for a bit. Originally from Sac. Now currently stationed in K-bay, HI and on deployment in Iraq. Doing some planning for a bit of relaxation for a little home-coming come around Nov. Started fly fishing back Aug '08 and haven't stopped since. I was wondering what preference of socks has worked for you guys when wet wading? I usually wear just regular boot socks, but they get irritating after a little bit.

Hello Button, thank you for helping to keep our country safe, Gods speed to all of you patriots. I just use heavy wool socks if wet wading, since the waders have neoprene booties I use light cotton socks when wearing them, interesting to hear what others use.

If you are in the Sac area this Fall and would like to try some Delta stripers, (Nov can be good) be honored to take you out on the boat. Pm if interested.

Simms neoprenes work well for me. You can leave em pulled up almost to your knees for a bit more warm first thing in the morning and this works great to give you some leg protection when bushwacking as I'm sure alot of you know sage brush can be murder on your legs especially after several days of hiking through it.

Guess I'm just "old school".... I wear light weight cotton socks under a pair of woolen boot socks for all wet wading. I've gotta admit, I stopped wading wet on the Klamath as I found that when I got a scratch, it immediately became infected. Klamath water isn't pristine (or even clean).

BTW, take very good care of yourself while over there....

hmm... thanks for the simms suggestions! think I'll give them a try in Nov. Hows the LMB and SMB fishing in Nov.? Its been a long time since I fished at home.

as for wet wading i use Marrino Wool socks (thin) bought at big 5 they are soft and dry fast for the over sock a very thick pair of real wool socks that pull up over my knees.....

Brah, you need to hit the sand bar and crashboat flat and get some big bones over there! Nice peacocks at lake Wilson, but the salt is more fun, Mems.

Those are neat looking fish man. I've never seen a tilapia. Don't trust it at the buffet.... That Red Devil is freaky!

Smartwool make great socks but they can be a little pricey, worth every penny tho in my opinion. I can testify to their durability and performance in multiple conditions. That's mainly when I'm hiking, as I just use Simms Neoprene Wet Wading Booties when I'm wet wading.

I don't ask this as a joke, as you must have much more serious things to be doing on deployment. However, I have heard of some fishing going on in Iraq. See any of that? I think I saw some pictures of carp out of Saddam's palace pond or something.....

I have been to the sandbar but for purposes other than fishing, the flats all around are pretty fun though. I am not a big saltwater fan...

Wjorg, I havent seen any fishing out here.... Al Anbar province is a little more lacking than those the Army operates in.
