Default McCloud & Hat Creek Preview, USac, Pit, LSac, Klamath & Trinity Report

The McCloud, Hat Creek & Fall River appear to be in the best shape we've seen for the opener in a few seasons. Great water conditions and hatches in full swing. Other rivers in the Shadow of Shasta are fishing great. We suggest an early getaway for the opener with the Pit, Upper Sac or Lower Sac as an appetizer. Default Increased flows on the USac & LSac!

Flows on the Upper Sac have nearly doubled since I posted the ShastaTrout report earlier this week. The flows have thrown off the bite on the Upper Sac and reduced the amount of fishable water significantly. Flows on the Lower Sac are scheduled to increase 250 cfs per day through Monday the 27th topping out at 8,000 cfs. These gradual stepped up flows may impact the grab but hopefully will be offset by overcast, increased bug activity and hatches triggered by the weather change. For anglers coming to the area for the traditional opener the best options will likely be the Pit River, the McCloud, Fall River and Hat Creek. As options decrease, expect crowding on the remaining rivers to increase:>( For a full report please check out our regional report at ShastaTrout.com

Default Updated flows on the Upper Sac, Lower Sac & Trinity

Updated flows on the Lower Sac are now scheduled to stabilize at 8500 cfs. Cypress bridge has been closed to boat traffic. The Upper Sac is steadily dropping and clearing. Current flows are just over 1500 cfs at Delta. Fishing will continue to improve, particularly with spring hatches starting to take flight. Releases on the Trinity are scheduled to increase from 300 cfs to 4,000 cfs on May 1st. This will make the Trinity not only unfishable but dangerous.
