I didn't remember you had a 40D.............cool.
We need one to shoot product for the online Spey store.
The 40D has what is called "live view" which is really good stuff.

Bill,
What kind of photos are you needing? Is there a reason it has to be a 40D?
Chris
Ya, Bill Andy's 20D will be just fine, you don't have to have that new "live view" feature, it can be helpful but totally not necessary. Just use a tripod, control the lighting and use a timer. After each picture just zoom in using the digital screen to check to make sure that you got the focus that you wanted.
Live view is cool because you can zoom into your subject to ensure correct focus easier, but you really need to use a tripod when you use that live view feature and you zoom in 10x .......I also recommend using the manual focus, so that you get the exact focus every time.
