clean up at the Rubicon this Sarurday

Well, I totally forgot about my homewater until the other day when I went up to fish. Guess I'd better do the litter pick-up this weekend or forget it for the season.

It doesn't really look to bad, the last one, (the only one) was a major undertaking. With the roads being closed there isn't anywhere near as much garbage as then. The areas around the parking spots need some work, as does the now walk in campground at the bottom.
With the boulders blocking the entrance we don't have the option of driving a truck down to the bottom to load garbage into, we'll have to lug it up the road.
There's some debris below the bridge too but I'm not sure yet of a way to haul it up.

I'm planning on Saturday morning, around 8.
Anyone and everyone's invited, if you've never been there you owe it to yourself to see it. Ed

I just picked up some contractor grade trash bags on the way home. I'm hoping to get hold of some litter grabbers also. Either way, we'll get it done. I'll pick you up around 6. Ed

Are you serioulsy going to be out at the site around 7 in the morning, you know the trash does not wake up til the sun comes up and warms everything up.

What time you want me there, I can stay til around 11 or 12 at the latest.

This turned out to be a last minute thing. My fault totally, I just got caught up with so much other fishing that I have'nt been up there for a while.

It's looking good for some clean up work tomorrow, since it's not that big of a job this time around the number of bodies needed isn't very large.

I will notify CSPA for the next big one though, as soon as I identify it. Ed

We got the Rubicon and two other spots cleaned up today.

Thanks to the hardworking volunteers who showed up we were able to not only clean the 'crap' out of the Rubicon access area but two other tribs as well.

Turned out to be a bit more trash than I had counted on, but we managed. We filled up my truck and even pressed Tony's truck into service. They were both loaded to the gills by the time we were done. Two of the three spots were really needing a pick up. After today I could happily camp at any of them.

The last stop of the day was at the U.S.F.S. yard in Georgetown to use their dumpsters. Even though they had no notice of our coming they still went way out of their way to thank us for the work and make us feel welcome. I could have stayed and B.S.'d with them for hours.

Let me give a shout out to my partners in crime.

Phil Synhorst, one of our board members here. Willing to slide down 20 feet of rocks on his butt to pick up a can. With his zeal no piece of litter was safe. With his scotch neither was I.

Tony,I didn't get your last name. He's a new member of Granite Bay Flycasters and a new fly fisher. Worked his tail off and volunteered his truck. Saved the day for us.

Gary in Garden Valley, willing to don waders and fish out the garbage people tossed into the water off the bridge. He also 'rescued' an old box spring from down there. It took a concerted effort of all of us to get his 'catch' up to the road.

Monte and Julie Hendricks, the real backbone of the effort. I have to say those two are the best couple I've ever seen on the hills. There was no keeping up with them.Julie managed to haul an old gas bbq grill up the cliff, and Monte, well, he carried the shitter up to the road. Can't thank you enough for that.

I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers. We've made a noticeable difference today and had one hell of a good time doing it. Well Done.
