    Default Abel reel rumor

Ok I couldn't wait... just got off the phone with my sister-in-laws next door neighbor in Salt Lake City and he says his fishing buddy heard from a reliable source (YEA I KNOW) anyhow,he says Abel is coming out with a quick release model of the Super Series. Has anyone heard this?

We saw the prototype at the Denver Fly Tackle Dealer Show in September.

They said it would be ready for next year?

    Default New abel

In this month's issue of Fly Fishing in Saltwater there is an add for it on page 20 and a full write up of it on page 65 under the New Product column.

Seems like Abel is trying to keep up with the latest Tibor but at $930.00 for a 11/12 weight I don't know how soon I'll be running out to get one.

Yikes that's a little pricey...but a Super Seven in the steelhead pattern with quick release? A few dance lessons with the wife and it might be a deal.
    Thanks for the info

I agree the spools come off quickly. The problem is the loose parts. If you lose one of those parts overboard, or down a tight spot in the floor of the panga..etc... your done.

Not that it is pertinent but I heard Abel was owned by Madoff's son.

I think the spool already comes off rather quickly and easily on a super series just unscrew the nut on the drag handle with a dime, order and keep an extra nut in the little space on the backside of the drag knob. I have never had to take my abel apart and its seen hundreds of days on the water, works just like the day she came out the box.

Didnt Abel increase the weight of the reel by 20% in order to get this quick change? Is that a good trade off?
