Default Go to "Skeena Country" This Year

Have you guys looked at the Skeena Tyee test fishery data recently?

The numbers are up! I don't know why I torture myself by looking at this stuff...
Good numbers of fish and likely fewer anglers due to gas prices/overall economy... 2008 could be a great season.
I would just go. There are so many fishing opportunities between Smithers and Terrace. The country is outstanding
I'll see the rest of you on the Feather and Trinity this year. I'll probably be thinking about this hen I landed on up there a couple years ago. She showed me a bunch of my backing. Matt.

Even when the numbers are down it's worth it. An unguided trip can be done for less than $1,000, if you're willing to camp and split gas with someone for the drive up there.

I have a 3-mo. old son, so I can't swing it this year and it's killing me!!!

    Default wish I could go!

Matt, that picture is awesome. I'm dying to get back up there, but with my son due on October 10th, I'm grounded this year! So I'll be trading steelhead for diapers (like you, TJ!) this year. Please post any reports if anyone does get up there...

You young fathers need to be good now so in a few years you can go again.

    Default Matt... Steelhead Fear you!

And they should! I am fortunate to say that I am heading up to the Nicholas Dean Lodge this coming Sunday. Skeena BABY! I was talking with some folks from up there and they are reporting some of the best runs of salmon and steelhead in more that a decade!!! I am shaking with excitement.

A near 30 pound chromer was landed 3 days ago!

Matt, how is the rat doing?

Take care, I will be posting blogs daily if not every other day to

    When in doubt, fish.

    bigtj and SFMike,
I have little ones too. I will not be going to Skeena Country this fall either. Tom McGuane wrote: "The best angling is always a respite from burden". I don't think my wife would appreciate hearing me refer to the raising of my children as "burdensome", but I'm sure she would agree that it's a ton of work. I will be looking forward to some "great" fishing in a few years.

    Ryan,
That rat died. I should have told you. I think she got too fat? Her death looked peaceful. You'll have to consol yourself by hooking a few steelhead while at Nicholas Dean. Have fun up there! Matt.

    Default kids and fishing

Bill and Matt, good words from Bill McMillan and on the kids issue. I'm sure I'll be able to find the balance somewhere between fatherhood duties and fishing needs. Maybe each 100 diaper changes will equal a day up in Skeena country. One consolation is that 4 or 5 years from now, there should be another really good run. I'll catch that one for sure!

Keep the reports coming, it's great to hear about it if I can't be there.

Ryan, I am happy for you but...YOU SUCK! You go fishing for LMB in Mexico and now steelhead on the Skeena...... I HATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Matt, that's a nice pic of you with that beauty of a steelhead. Hopefully we can get together to chase some steelhead this fall.
