    Default New TFO Switch rods............

    July 11, 2008

Two handed rod designers Mike Kinney and Bob Meiser continue to expand the TFO Deer Creek series of fly rods with the introduction of the Deer Creek Switch Rod Series.

Bob Meiser has been in the forefront of popularizing and refining blank designs for the Switch Rod concept of fly rods since the mid 1990s. His expertise with this unique family of rods is well established within the two handed rod community. Bob’s original concept has been universally accepted over the past decade and teaming with Mike Kinney in design and application for these rods has now taken the concept to the next higher level. We have used our proprietary Axiom material lay-up process for these blanks. These are extremely light weight, durable, thoughtfully designed fly rods with superb performance … Best defined simply as: “Totally efficient delivery tools.”

By simple definition: “Switch Rods” are multi-task fly rods specifically designed to allow a variety of both single and two handed caster options…
The primary goal of the Switch Rod is to allow the caster the ability to achieve maximum targeted forward distance with the least amount of expended energy.

With a Switch Rod the caster can:

    1. Utilize two handed overhead delivery, allowing the angler (if desired) to eliminate the physical burden of repetitive single hand double haul deliveries.
    2. Utilize all two handed classic anchor point Spey deliveries to eliminate the back cast associated with single hand overhead deliveries.

Bob has said of Switch Rods: “Applications in total for this family of fly rods are limited only to the creativity of the angler.” We at TFO agree with this, and look forward to the introduction of this refined series of fly rods to the creative angler.

Deer Creek Switch rods feature deep translucent blue blanks accentuated with silver script and copper tipping, sculpted Flor grade cork and decorative burl grips, gun-metal up-locking reel seats with cushioned hoods and large titanium oxide stripping guides. These 4 piece 11 footers are currently available in Spey line weights 5 through 9 (4 wt. Sept. 0 and each rod is marked with design factored grain windows to aid the angler in correct line selection. Suggested retail $324.95-$349.95 includes case.

All TFO rods feature our lifetime unconditional warranty. Simply return the damaged rod with $25 for shipping and handling, and we will repair or replace your rod. Please ask your local dealer about TFO or visit our website www.templeforkflyrods.com for more information.

Line recommendation by Bob Meiser from SpeyPages:

    Guys,

Mike and I designed the grain windows for the 11'0" Deer Creeks to be compatable with off-the-shelf two handed line numbers or defined single hand shooting heads for two handed over head work.

The Deer Creek Switchers (like all Deer Creek two handers) do have design factored grain windows noted on the blanks, so line marriages for them will be very easy to determine.

Bottom line is <> These are short two handed rods ... So short bellied lines will work the best.

The 11'0" Deer Creeks will perform well with all grain matched Skagit/Scandi shooting heads, or classic short belly Spey tapers.

Grain matched Rio OutBounds have ideal tapers for two handed overhead ... Simply grain match them to the rods' given grain window.

    Some Line Suggestions:
