Looks an awful lot like a wolf spider to me.

Chuck Norris has already been to Mars; that's why there are no signs of life.
I was thinking a wolfy, but the ones I usually see around and in the house were nowhere near that size. They are one of my favorite spiders.

Yeah, I work in Natomas.... We have HUGE wolf spiders here.
The QC guys are scared of them... LOL.

"Yes, size does matter..."
No, no...you guys are waaaaay off on this one. That my friends is the infamous and deadly California Drowning Spider, from the genus Cannotus Swimus. Also, a common nickname is the Quarter Dollar Spider.
Stop! Who would cross the Bridge of Death, must answer me these questions three, ere the other side ye see.
Maybe that spider's got a whole stash of quarters down at the bottom of your pool.
Elwood: It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.
Scott,
A quarter sized wolf spider is actually fairly small!
I saw one that would have barely fit in the palm of my hand (it wasn't a California Tarantula either. Unfortunately, I have also seen those)
And I hate spiders...
