    Default Rucker Lake

So last Tuesday I played hookey from work and headed up to Rucker lake to check out the fabled Rucker midget bass.

After getting lost for an hour on beat up dirt and rock roads,

I finally made it to the lake. I excitedly set up the pontoon and parked the jeep back up the hill a bit.

I wheeled the toon down through the #2 campsite to the water and looked out on this beautiful small lake. I surveyed from where I stood and noticed one thing...I was the ONLY person on the shore and on the lake. What a treat.

I started out a bit and headed away from the dam thinking that I would just circle the lake a couple of times during the day. What a blast.

I caught a ton of these:

And quite a few of these:

From the time I hit the lake to the time I left, I was in fish. Nothing of size, but sometimes one after another.

    These little fish fought hard:

I went back up this Saturday afternoon to show my girlfriend the lake and got out on the water for about 2 hours. I caught well over a dozen fish in that short period of time as well. We left Rucker and headed down to Fuller Dam and spent the sunset there watching all the newly planted trout feed on top. What a day.

    Great report and fun photos........thanks.

Pete Peterson always talks about this place for lots of small bass.

Do you need a float tube or pontoon boat?

How would shore or wading fly fishing be?

    Bill,

From the campgrounds, the shallows extend a good 20 - 30 feet from the shoreline and on Saturday I saw a few people waist deep casting worms towards the center of the lake and catching here and there.

A tube or pontoon is needed to get to the other side where there is cover and better fishing. I did my best fishing right up against the rock wall directly across the lake from the campgrounds.

I even caught a bunch of fish letting my bugger sink and slow trolled across the middle of the lake.

The dam is walkable, but there are no trespassing signs all around it and you have to go through the Liahona private campsite to get over there.
