    Default long saddles

    Hi folks,

any tips on where to get some really long saddles, for making large flies. I'm thinking fishy looking flies in the 10-12" range

    thanks,

    Default Long Saddles....

Hmmm,.... since you live in the coastal area, you should check with your local shops (Ernie's Casting Pond, San Jose Fly Shop, California Fly shop, etc.). If you're unsuccessful, try on-line for Hareline Dubbin, Inc., products. They have some dyed, long, webby saddle hackles for large flies.....

Stop in every fly shop you drive near for the rest of your life.

Contact 'Saltwater Edge' fly shop back east.

Metz has a new saddle called a Magnum, I have a #1 magnum griz dyed purple. I could bring it to Kiene's fly expo in a month for you to check out.

I am impressed with it. I measured the feather length. They run from 7 to 9 inches, but not 10 to 12 inches.

Whiting has "utility" saddles... I think that's what they call them anyways. Not sure exactly how big they are but they're for saltwater/streamers...

    Default Long Saddles....????

Eureka!!!!.... Found some Long feathers from Whiting Farms, Inc. These are called Schlappen and come in a variety of colors (natural and dyed). The length of these feathers ranges from 12" to 14". Decent quality, too. If you have a favorite local shop, have them order some for you or look for an Internet or mail order supplier.
