The last few days were pretty good but not what I'd call 'wide open' (25 hookups as opposed to 40+-ish). Man, are we spoiled here! The weather put a little bit of a damper on things but there were still plenty of bugs to keep the fish active. Noon-4 or so seems to be the hot time of day lately. As we drift down I've noticed a myriad of different bugs active from section to section. Experimenting with different flies was very important...now and then we'd be on the right pattern but not size, a simple adjustment makes a world of difference sometimes!

I'm new to this message board and am typically a wallflower type, so you probably won't hear too much from me, but I figured in light of all of the discussion of whether it's right for guides to post reports etc. I'd put up my own non-guide Lower Sac Report.

My wife and I floated an upper section of the Lower Sac this past weekend and had a great time. Despite having trouble casting a rather long (it really helps to get down deep) indicator rig, which meant a lot of back-rowing for me, she still managed to get into some really nice fish. They didn't seem to picky in terms of flies, most hit a small #16 light colored unnamed pattern that I tie.

Here are a couple of pictures.

Thanks for all the get reports and photos.

We like seeing all the gals fishing up that way. There is no reason more women can't be fly fishing.

April/May is a huge time on the Lower Sac especially in low water years like this one.

Now, if I could just get Holly to row more often....
Recently I've seen a lot more women begin to get involved with the sport. There's so many reasons for people to find it appealing. It's all about the introduction though!
