Default Granite Bay Flycasters brave the weather at Rancho Seco

Eight of us show up in the morning with light rain and the wind building, by lunch with only a couple of fish caught on the north end half of the group left. After lunch with white caps and a steady 15 mph wind we went back out onto our float tubes to give it one more cast. A couple of big fish pods moved into the coves, and turned a cold windy day into a great day. A intermediate line, and a black fly worked.

Rancho Seco is a really beautiful place to fish, especially now that they are planting trout in it for the winter tournaments.

Lots of nice grassy areas for the family too.

The water is very clear and it has lots of aquatic vegetation.

I think we could be out there till it gets warm in April for the trout, then it's bass and panfish time..

You can wade some of it but a float tube, pontoon boat, canoe, kayak or boat with electric motor are all a little better.

The trout seem to pod up so you can find them in a watercraft.

Under REPORTS we have info on this fishery.

Chuck Campana, who works at the shop every Sunday, fishes Rancho Seco a lot. The water is clear and he uses very long leaders like 15' plus.
