Lake Davis Pike Eradication Project Treatment Begins Monday
Media Briefing Planned 9:30 a.m. Monday to Highlight Streams/Tributaries Treatment

What: A media briefing demonstrating the application of rotenone using spraying and a drip system will start the Department of Fish and Game’s (DFG) planned one-week treatment of Lake Davis’ streams and tributaries. Treatment of the Lake Davis reservoir will occur later in September.

Where/When: Briefing will occur at the Old House Creek area on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007. Interested media will meet at Grizzly Valley Dam on Lake Davis at 9:30 a.m sharp, and a caravan will proceed shortly thereafter to the briefing treatment site. Allow time to obtain a press badge and project information packet at the checkpoint, which you can get with a valid media credential. To get to Grizzly Valley Dam from the east, take Grizzly Road off Highway 70 east of Portola and then turn left at the “Services” sign, From the west, in the City of Portola, turn left off Highway 70 onto West Street, which will take you straight to the dam. A second briefing to wrap up the first day of activity is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Grizzly Valley Dam.

Why: For this project, DFG took extensive steps identifying all possible pike-bearing waters up to 4 ½ miles from the reservoir, using satellite technology and other intensive survey methods. Because treating the tributaries and streams is critical to eradicating pike, DFG officials will be on site to describe the current treatment, as well as to discuss the entire eradication project.

Project’s Scheduled Timeline

• Week of Sept. 10: Treatment on all streams and tributaries upstream from Lake Davis.
• Week of Sept. 17: No treatment is planned this week. Activities will include monitoring, checking on the effectiveness of the first treatment, and collecting dead fish.
• Week of Sept. 24: A second treatment of the streams and tributaries is planned for Sept. 24. A 2-day treatment of the reservoir is scheduled to begin Sept. 25.

I still think they should run a big net thru the lake and put some fish in Fuller or something....You know offshore style.
