Default What time do fish wake up in the Sierras

I am going up to Silver Fork this Sunday and was wondering what time is good for fishing. I am a bass fishermen getting back into trout fishing, so I am use to getting up at the crack of dawn, but I have a funny feeling that the trout would still be sleeping.

This will be my first fly fishing trip so hopefully I will hook into some beauties.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

In my experience you do not have to fish too early in the High Sierras due to light and temperature conditions. The early morning sunlight take a little while to light up the streams and offer some warmer temps to thaw out the trout. I usually start fishing about between 7-9 am, not super early like first light.

I agree with Adam, especially on the smaller streams. If your wading wet you can feel the difference through out the day. Ed P.S. Your going to have to be very sneaky.

The higher up and further away from the trailhead you go the more the fish eat around the clock. They have to because the season is so short. In one lake in the Wind Rivers I had great fishing all day and most of the night. Just fish when you feel like it you will do fine.

Cool, thanks for the info. I plan on leaving around 7 so I should be good, either way it will be an awesome day whether or not I catch anything. I just love to be on or in this case in the water.

Scott, black foam ants are great in the high country. The foam keeps the fly floating all day long, if tied correctly.

Bring some buggers for the deep holes. There are some big browns in the Silver Fork.

Should I just fish anywhere on the Silver or should I go up a ways, I have never fished there before. And what is a bugger. I am totally new to fly fishing so I do not know the terms yet.

    Thanks
