Stanislaus River...

I'm curious about the Stanislaus for Shad. Do any of the readers of this forum ever fish it? I have a nephew in Oakdale I would like to take fishing on the Stanislaus, but I have zero knowledge about the river. Is it worth giving it a try? Thanks in advance for any help. Pat
