    Default Lead split-shot info

The topic of the fate of split shot and using lead vs. tin came up in the conservation thread. I thought I'd bring this over to the trout section along with some good info:

If you haven't thought about switching from lead split shot, read this flyer and ask yourself if mabye tin or other split-shot alternatives might make more sense.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the article. When nymphing with split shot, you're usually drifting deep and hang-ups are common. I don't know how many lead weights I've left on the bottom of rivers. I have some tin shot that I've been trying out. I think it's about time to make the change.

    Default tungsten putty

Well you guys I have been using tungsten putty. This stuff really gets down fast. Kinda expensive but work good. Pinch some on at the blood knot where ya tie in your tippet and let her fly.

A new product this year is from "Boss Tin" which is a mixture of bismuth and tin creating an alloy which is very close to the density of lead.

We have it in stock at Kiene's Fly Shop.

I am using that stuff right now and it is excellent! Everybody give it a shot it works great. It is also a bit more malleable than the dinsmores stuff so it seems to be easier to get on and off plus it also is easier on the tippet.
