    Default Up-river Striper Report

For the last few weeks the stripers have been doing great on the Sac between Colusa and Grimes and on down to Knights Landing and Verona, but, for the past week or so the water dropped straight down at least 4'-5' and warmed to 69 degrees as of today. This has really shut the bite off and F&G at the traps in Knights Landing are reporting that a lot of fish have already spawned.

On the Feather, there is very little water to draw any stripers on up and the few that are being taken are mostly taken at night.

So, what's a guy supposed to do? Well, I guess I'll give it a shot tomarrow night under that big full moon and see if we can find any feeding on all those salmon smolt that are coming down the river from Battle Creek.

Just got the first report of shad today also, but with all this low water that may be slim pickings too.

    Thanks for the update Tony!

My own lack of success over the weekend echos your suggestion that the bite has shut off. I got spanked! Only a couple of fish for two hard days of fishing. Another factor to add to the tough fishing equation would be the intense boat traffic. There are tons of guides, weekend warriors, and even wake-boarders running up and down the river right now. I will never fish another weekend on the Sac during the peak of the run. I'd rather go shopping at the mall.

There definitely are lots of juvenile salmon present right now. I hope you find some good night-time action. I am going to let my wounds heal for a week or so and hopefully get back to find the fish still present and in a better mood. Matt.

I am sure weather changes and flow releases are causing some inconsistency.

Wonder about the moooooon getting soooo big? Full moon Wednesday night.

    Thanks for the report, Tony.

I've been on the American a few times, nothing really to report. Seems I hook a striper every time I go out, but no numbers and nothing really big... up to 4lbs or so.

No sign of shad yet. Water has dropped way down, I'm assuming becuause of the lowered Sac, not necessarily lowered AmRiv flows, but I haven't checked the website.

Lots of shallow bars from the railroad bridge upstream so be careful if you're in a boat for the first time.

    Default Up-River Striper Report

    CRAP!

I am headed up early tomorrow am, and was hoping to find them between Grimes and Colusa. Any thoughts further down stream below Knights Landing? Bill is right about the weather. By Tuesday evening a system will arrive that will dramatically change conditions. Windy too!

Here is a weather report :
