    Default Swimming Caddis Pupa

Has anyone ever seen a swimming caddis pupa? They look just like waterboatmen. I saw one a few weeks ago. When I got home, I googled "swimming caddis pupa" and found this article by Oliver Edwards. He ties some super-realistic flies.

Has anyone ever tied a caddis pupa like this with waterboatmen-like legs? I guess this is why soft-hackled flies work so well.

JT...If you're looking to tie a realistic boatman I've tied a few. Dale Beamish has a great pattern. Go to Fly Anglers Online and click on Fly of the Week Archive. His pattern is there and fun to tie. Let me know if you have any questions.

I actually have a few patterns that I use for water boatmen. I've come up with them by observing the naturals. Has anyone else noticed the similarity in swimming water boatmen (and backswimmers) and swimming caddis pupae?
