Saltwater Popper Advice

I'm working on a proto type popper for Baja and came up with this design. I'm wondering what everyone thinks (criticism wanted) about this design and any problems I may have with it, before I tie up a bunch of them. When I made this popper I was thinking about making a long body popper without using a long shank hook. It seems I drop a lot of fish when I use long hooks. I worry about it fowling excessively and haven't cast it yet. The body is made of backer rod and the front cup face is a shotgun wad, all covered with flexi-cord and epoxy.

Backer Rod is the foam under body, it's the stuff that comes in a roll for stuffing in cracks ect. If I could find it in white it would be easier. The wire is a heavy stainless material I had for making spreaders to troll for salmon in the Rogue River Bay

Looks great !! If it fouls too much ......... try a small bit of rubber surgical tubing slipped over the hookeye/wire junction .
