Default No run-off this spring so May/June will be wild.

This will be different than the past two openers.

Many trout streams will be fishing well in May this year because there will be little run-off.

Every stream will be a month early and get really bad mid-summer too.

    August will really "suck"!

Be sure to hit the Upper Sac, McCloud and Pit Rivers in May/June.

Trying to look on the bright side of things. There's alwaysthe high country and tailwaters in August and September. I'm looking forward to an amazing early summer that is for sure. And the rainbows will probably have great spawning success this year. As long as we don't have a couple years like this in a row we'll be OK.

Here on the eastside of the Sierra I would recomend getting on the West Walker as soon as the runoff is done and hit the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin as soon as Devils Postpile road opens. Both these rivers (freestones) will be trickles by August.

On the bright the Upper Owens (spring creek) should be great. I was hiking up above Big Springs the other day and all the little feeder springs are really pumping away. That 2X normal snowpack from last season is still making an impact. Funny, we had 700 inches of snow last year at Mammoth Mtn. we are barely at 200 this seasons total.

Crowley Lake fed by Upper Owens should fish great this summer. It is very full right now. So is Bridgeport Res. so the E. Walker should be good too. Hopefully the alfalfa farmers have enough water so the Res. does not get sucked too low...

Like Bigtj said, there is always the High Sierra. This will be a great year to do some backpacking/horsepacking for goldens. Access will not be as late as the last two seasons.

California is a great state with lots of opportunity. Get creative and try something new this summer.

    Thanks Dave

We appreciate your professional input about the upcoming season down your way.

I see more and more fly fishers driving down your way every year.

I was looking at your web site and it is very nicely done.

    Thank you, Bill.

Here is a good article in the MammothLocal.com about Reds Meadow/Devil's Postpile Road opening REALLY early. Also, the Mammoth Lakes Basin Rd will be open early too.

If you enjoy the Middle Fork of the San J. get there earlier than usual...freestone rivers will be hurt badly by the light snowpack.
