Casino pond.....

Stopped to snoop a pond that Anne and I have frequented before. A snotty type algea started forming last year....the kind that adheres to the water plants that we DO like to see. This year it has gone completely wild. Any ideas as to what it is, where it comes from, and why it has become so prolific so fast?
