    Default Upper Kings river 3/23-24

I fished the upper kings river for the first time with my fly club last weekend and did very well. Had 7 hookups and 5 fish to hand, largest was about 12". All fish were released.

All but one were on march brown drys late in day while the hatch was going off. Had one hookup on march brown nymph saturday morning.

Started fishing late friday for about 3 hours going 1 for 2. The one I lost was clearly my biggest fish and broke me off using 5x. I switched to 3x after that and had no more breaks. Fished all day saturday going 4 for 5 and for about an hour Sunday morning for nada before it was time to leave.

I love it when the water is slightly high and the fish are hungry, aggressive and very fiesty.

Great weekend and hoping to do it again next year. Here are the pics of the fish, the river and the grinding stone I found.

Thanks for the report! Pretty fish and love that fourth shot; I was up around the upper Kings last month and the grass hadn't yet come out, the river valley looks beautiful now.
