I finally got out to fish one of the new regulation winter rivers and after considering going to the Rubicon, I went out for the Truckee.
It was awesome being out on the river today, snow was on the ground, water temps in the mid 40's, golden stones and small mayflies were abundant, even saw a few caddis larva. I caught 2 fish on the fly made for the Truckee River: Tan Bird's Nest. Look for them in slow deep water beacuse I had no luck anywhere else...First one was a beautiful rainbow about 17" :
And several cast later I hooked Uncle Whitey
I tried a lot of different flies, but they only were interested in my Bird's Nest. Talked to a guy that caught a few on a brown San Juan Worm.
