I'm going to add just plain 'ol time on the water really helps. While classes, instruction, videos, etc. can help hone a skill or learn a new one, nothing will replace just getting out and going...
This is my favorite time of year on the East Walker. The water is cool and usually offers lower flows, the weather is generally mild and the fishing is fantastic. Last Friday the river was a little...
I was on the Nevada side Friday and we did OK on nymphs and talked to a couple of guys that were doing well on streamers. The flows were 140 that day, 110 on Sunday and as I write this, they are at...
That's cool! I have had the same problem so I never went. Thanks!!
Before I retired back in July, I promised my friend and co-worker, John L’Etoile, we would meet up and go fishing. He has always been interested in fly fishing but had never done it. I told him I...
Lots of pretty streams, but Lamoille Creek is probably the pretiest and has good fishing. Just there a few weeks back. Brookies and tiger trout. Check out this post, or my blog for a report.

I would guess that there is another food source downstream or the conditions aren't ideal right now. It has been pretty warm. They may seem tame, but they are free to leave. maybe right now would...
And now the conclusion:
I sat on a rock near a perfect little pool near the Cantara Loop at the end of Cantara Road. I found the spot earlier that morning while going to get breakfast. I...
Wow! Thanks! I would need another week to check out all those areas. I think you are correct that it is just the parking lot that is closed. Still hiking in from Prospect make it shorter and I'll...
A trip months in the making. I had been planning this trip since before a I retired in July. The Upper Sac is a legendary river where Ted Fay perfected his craft. Dunsmuir is a neat little trout...
Thanks! Yes, reports to follow.
Per the Dunsmuir Chamber of Commerce website and verified by phone call, the railroad access is closed. It didn't state as much, but I suspect due to safety concerns and railroad work. I saw and...
Wow, great trip and report. Those LCs are really pretty. I was planning a trip up that way, but to Winnemucca Lake and beyond. Your trip looks better.
I am leaving for the Upper Sac on Monday. I wanted to visit Mossbrae Falls, but the trail closed in August and remains closed. I know that Hedge Creek falls is close by, however. Can you get to...
No doubt! Even here, the only person I saw was one of the ranch hands driving around the meadow in a Jeep. Looks like they have some makeshift gates in the meadow to control water flow.
If you mean the trailhead at the top of the meadow, I was there and didn't see any indication of closure. Still, not a bad idea to check.
Good news? At least you were fishing :D
Gee, nice I could show up! Been a while, a month to be exact. Been busy with Henrys football, school shopping, and, if Im being honest, a little lazy. Plus after the trip to Elko, I felt a...
Your welcome and thanks for the compliment.
It was 97 in Elko. No wonder all that melted. I was worried the creek might be too high still, but it was perfect. There was still snow here and there up on the peaks.
oh ya, I forgot to mention the 7 miles of barbed wire, rattlesnakes, scorpions and rabid coyotes we had to hike through to get there. :)
I had planned on taking my boys on a fishing trip this summer, but for the life of me I couldnt figure out where. I thought of a dozen different places and went back and forth about whether to camp...
Can't wait to read the report and see the pics. Good luck!!
I received a private message from a guy who goes by 'fly addict' on the Fly Fishing Addicts forums, which I post on from time to time. Mark, his real world name, had seen my blog and he a couple of...
