Wow, those are some heavy grain recommendations, and short switch lines too. Adam, you might try Airflo Compact Skagit 540 for winter, SA Skagit Extreme 520 for summer, and the SA Extreme...

Must be a Wilson River broodstock progeny? Bummer if it spawned in the Trask. Should have bonked it.
Is Scott's Trask fish a hatchery fish? (and a downstreamer?) If so, bummer on both accounts.
Trask does not have a steelhead hatchery, sucks to see hatchery strays spawn there.
Loren E, here is a link with much information.

Possibly the best whiskey selection in Trinity County!

Don't forget to talk Hardy reels with Will...
Recent studies have shown extremely low reproductive success when hatchery and wild fish interbreed. And almost zero success when hatchery fish breed in the wild. Hatchery fish compete with wild fish...
I don't know of any river where steelhead in the teens is considered "smaller." Unless you are talking inches not pounds.
Wondering if anyone has one of these around.
awesome photo Andy!
The idea of pegging a bead a few inches above the hook came about as a way to mitigate the deep hooking common to fishing egg flies. In Alaska, where the technique originated, the rainbow fisheries...
post a picture?
I'll be there too!

Most of the Sauk headwaters are in Natl Forest and fairly well protected. However, that river can cut loose with glacial silt with zero visibility for weeks at a time. Also, there are almost no wild...
Nice job guys! It's nice to have a one-stop shop for all the evolving spey rods and lines.
Might want to check the regs as the Sauk/Skagit has been closed in April recently.
I second that commotion! Jason and Ryan are both spey jedis and great teachers (as well as great guides). Hey Trinity I'm hoping to get back up your way soon. I'll shoot you a PM.
The longer bellied traditional spey lines were made for a style that fished with much line on the water- thus picking up line and setting an anchor was difficult. With the short head lines you strip...
Nice to meet you on the water yesterday Mark. Have Benny to let me know how that Rvr Fshr 50/50 spoon works out. -Rob
Is the Short Skagit a full line or shooting head (aka Airflo compact Skagit?)
Has anyone tried this new SA running line on a spey shooting head set up?

Looks like the Marquis Salmon 1 would be a good fit for the switch and under 7wt spey rods if the weight is under 8ozs. When will you have a few for sale?
