I crush it with my vise jaws before tying. That seems to get it pretty flat.
It seems like 1 in 15 hooks break when I pinch the barb. I'd rather have it break on the bench than on the river.

I've always been curious about the bare shank behind the hook eye on Catskill style dry flies. Is it simply tradition, or is there a theory behind it?

I think they do a free 30 day trial so you can play around with the templates.
Hi Jay,
I use Squarespace. They're not the cheapest but they make it easy--especially the domain name transfer. It took about an hour to create my page.
Hope that helps.

Not my video, not my dolly (got rid of it a few years back), but this is pretty darn close to what I rigged up:

I had a dinky collapsible kayak dolly. I adapted it for my pram by attaching a 3/8 threaded rod axle with hose clamps. Then I bolted on some 12" wheels I found at Tractor Supply. It was ugly but...
Oooooooooo! That's pretty!
Seriously guys, once you fish from a pram you'll never go back to a pontoon or tube. $350 is a steal.
Thanks JD. That one looks like a winner.
I snuck out to the creek today. The hoppers were out and the wind was blowing so there were lots of naturals going into the water.
I noticed the fish were letting the hoppers sink before the...
I've never used a yarn sighter. In low-viz situations I do a double dry set-up. Big hi-viz fly on top (like a Chubby) with the small fly as dropper.
I also like Palsa Pinch-On adhesive...
This has been my #1 mayfly pattern for the past year. Enjoy!

Hey Jim,
I like Denny Rickard's "Fly Fishing Stillwaters for Trophy Trout". I'm a big fan of his Seal Bugger fly, but you can't go wrong with a good ole' wooly bugger.
Chironomid fishing is...
I'm loving these videos from Bob Reece: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-ZuGbr1NjK5ihyu0_5g4qQ
He's doing some innovative things with foam. I can vouch for the Beefcake Beetles.
That is a steal. Wish I was in the market for a boat.
Hey Greg,
That's a weird one. I only clean my lines about once a year. For trout I use Rio Gold or Rio Trout LT (DT). I spend a lot of days on the water and rarely have a problem. My lines...
Just to mix it up, I'd take a look at the Cortland (yes, Cortland) Competition rods. Great rods at a great price: http://www.cortlandline.com/accessories-rods-competition-rods/

Agreed. I tried Xink. Didn't help my catch rate.
If you're over using split shot try tungsten putty. Mojo Mud is nice if you can find it.
I've been using the Rising 'Flask Pack' for a few years now. They make some high-quality well designed gear.
The double surgeon knot works for me: http://www.animatedknots.com/surgeonsjoin/index.php?Categ=fishing&LogoImage=LogoGrog.png&Website=www.animatedknots.com#ScrollPoint

For streamers I use a Cliff's Bugger Barn: http://www.cliffoutdoors.com/index.php?page=the-bugger-barn It's big but not too big. I can usually squeeze it in my pack with my other boxes.

The Cabela's CGRs are great small stream rods. I have the 6-6 4wt and the 7-6 5/6 wt. They're slow action but they're tough and cast beautifully. The MSRP is 129.99 but I got mine on sale for $60...
Hi Jake,
There's great fishing around and in Boulder. I wouldn't call it a fishing destination (it's not Montana), but be sure to bring your rod when you come out.
Boulder Creek is a catch and...
Hey Eric,
It's a pretty easy fix. If you can whip a rope you can wrap a rod. You'll need to:
- carefully cut off the old thread and epoxy with a razor blade or xacto knife (taking care not to...
Good stuff! I'll have to tie some up!
This is amazing. Plenty of fishing applications: flies, lines, waders, boots, rain gear, boats . . .
