i guess i can't argue with your gps --- maybe it's actually farther from high emigrant lake to emigrant pass. in any case, yes, a painful hike it was. but an extremely beautiful hike. the views from...
great report.
but i must correct you... leavitt lake to high emigrant lake is not 6.5 miles; it's more like 9 miles. my tom harrison map of the area shows 10.6 miles from the gate above leavitt...
i use 3, 5, and a 7 wt rod. i mostly use the 3 and 5, though. even on larger streams, i will use the 3 wt, unless i plan on doing some deep nymphing requiring more than a bb shot.
a few weeks ago, i landed a 22" rainbow on the truckee with a 3 wt. a 10 incher should be no problem.
james,
i only mention pit bull fighting because of the recent events in the news. but you're right about the training and such involved. my example was definitely overly simplistic - i just wanted...
do macs have right click now? back when i was a mac user, it was always CTRL+click.
from a philisophical (not legal) viewpoint, if fish do indeed feel pain (debatable and controversial), can't one consider c&r fishing practices to be comparable to pit bull fighting? after all,...
not quite. the size restriction is a 14 inch maximum size (e.g. fish 14" and smaller). yes, i did errorneously write "c&r" early in my previous post (before getting into size and count restrictions),...
i've seen wardens on the little truckee a few times.
when the little truckee regs first became c&r barbless artificials only until around 6-7 years ago, i used to occassionally see people fishing...
i fished the truckee again on sunday. on the water at ~1:30pm. not too much action, didn't see any surface activity. fished with some nymphs and caught several 5-7 inch browns and rainbows. got bored...
I've had my share of problems with other anglers, and with a few guides.
A few years ago on Hot Creek, I was fishing a small riffle casting downstream, with other anglers maybe 30-40 yards away...
i should also add that i had to work really hard for those fish. i probably casted more flies per hour than i ever did -- i was definitely on a mission. my arm is actually a bit sore today!
so i cancelled my plans to go to the upper sac and went to the truckee instead yesterday. got on the water by 11am and, unlike last week, had done quite decently. by 1pm, i had hooked up with 3...
i'd already planned on going to the upper sac tomorrow, but now i'm tempted to try the truckee again tomorrow.
we'll see...
thanks for the report.
downstream of the bridge? in the private section? nope, that wasn't us. we were along glenshire road in the second pullout (i believe there are 3 pullouts along glenshire rd), and we fished our way...
just curious... what time of day did you fish there on sunday?
hi matt,
maybe we did see each other. i don't recall seeing a group of three people though. there were several loners, and a few larger groups hanging out by their cars.
we were on the water by...
i'd have to disagree.
yes, the flows are good, the bugs are there, but the fishing is slow. three of us spent the day there yesterday and got skunked. i can't remember the last time i was skunked...
