Many years ago I lived in Amherst, Mass, and fished the Deerfield River. I've heard it has improved over the years, especially the upper sections. Worth checking out.

Boy Scout Camp Wolfboro on the NF Stan, 1953 (I was 11). Can't remember the rod or reel, but I'm sure I used a Royal Coachman. That was the go-to fly of the day. The fish was perhaps 6".
