Bill, I don't think a boat is absolutely necessary in this case. A kayak would work or even a float tube. I'm sure there's fish everywhere and definitely close to the ramps.

My suggestion would be a reservoir in the Motherlode for trout. I've been running into a ton of them at Melones in the back of creek arms. They're easy to find as they're grouped up and you see...
