DO NOT TAPE THE FERRULES! Echo (for one) recommends (clean) wax only for their spey rods, they've had rods returned w/broken ferrules because of the tape.
"best" time of year for shore fishing (red drum, jacks etc.)
when using 30 foot 12 weight (400 grain non spey shooting head) with 13 foot rod (for 510 grain scandi)
It's inside their (official) range
if the rod has a fighting butt, no further work is needed (ANY rod with a fighting butt can be used with both hands).
Any ideas, (Santa Cruz, Ca. area)
Try using an 8 or 10 weight!
#1) DON'T go on a weekend #2) stay within 100 feet of shore #3) all flies MUST be as weedless as possible.
When I tried using an 8wt. instead of a 10 (I have both) for a double spey with a 300 grain scandi, it flexed far more than I was comfortable with.
Yes or no?
Twenty inches? or twenty pounds?
I'm after the trout you cast to with a 10 weight rod (the size of the flies, as well as the size of the fish require the use of the heavy rod.
for 600 people (Westlands Irrigation District) on marginal land (they were losing land to contamination (presumably alkali) in the 1980's!)
For the aquatic shrews around Calif., I've been thinking along the lines of a3/0 jig hook (yes, I know the hook is big, but so are the fish),bead chain, and sculpin wool.
Any ideas or suggestions?

not if you use CLEAN (new, unused) household (canning) wax, echo recomends this for their spey rods as well, NO taping.
it makes much easier to separate the sections when you quit for the day.

Which ones are most useful, any ideas?
