In learning to cast my switch rod & I've never casted in the surf. Is there one cast in particular I should concentrate on?

Fished south of Willow Creek, Tish tang, east/west rifle, etc. Heard some fish were caught around Del loma, but we didn't see it. The water was slow, low and warm, 71 degrees. Didn't see many fish...

So with that being said, is there a need to fish below Willow? Are there fresh fish above it?:fish:
