I guess the short answer would be they are a bit of an easier transition to longer rods than say jumping right into to a 13-14ft rod. The sticking point...

Theres a good thread on these rods right above yours here. Think a Spey or "Mini Spey" would be a great choice for what you're doing.

I really like the smaller ones too Bill. VW makes a really nice one that i have seen around. We get a lot of that kind of traffic here in Ashland. Lots of Campers and RV types coming through and it's...
