First off, this is a shout-out Thank You to Matt Heron for helping me out of a difficult situation. I slipped on mossy rocks and did a pratfall in shallow water and landed on my back. My wading...
EC Caddis and Parachute Adams. One or the other will almost always work.

Thanks for the report. I'm hoping to get up there sometime soon.

Hey Bluegrass Bill,
Thanks for the memories. I miss the old crowd and the bashes. Nice video.

Spent the day on the Silver Fork yesterday. Conditions were perfect. I even caught lots of fish--all on dries. Love that stream.

You don't need to go that far south. Just south of Tahoe is the West Fork of the Carson River. Nice meadows section, then the canyon section. It's not wilderness fishing, but it's fun. There are...
Chris,
Hope you don't have to give it up completely. Old age is limiting my fishing, too. And I certainly don't need more stuff.
Check your PM.
Be Well,

John Sv, I can't identify, but looks like the Rapidan or similar stream in Virginia.
Curious to find out.

The Lower Moke will reopen January 1 below Comanche Res. The smolts would be fun on a 2wgt. You can also check out the Calaveras below the dam. Good small stream options this time of year. Maybe...
You have to hear it from Lee.

Thanks. And a Happy Thanksgiving, good health, and tight lines for you all. A good Pinot Noir goes well with the bird.

PS; Lee, do they still call you Staples?
I second the recommendation of "The Big Burn." Excellent and educational book.
I spent 3 summers in my youth as a firefighter with CDF, so I could relate.
Enjoy,

That book is a classic. Highly recommended for background. For updated info, try: "Introduction to Water in California," by David Carle.

Went to a conference in Spearfish, SD, several years ago. (Northwest corner of the state.) Took my fishing gear and found several nice little creeks and beaver ponds. I don't think many people...
Many years ago I lived in Amherst, Mass, and fished the Deerfield River. I've heard it has improved over the years, especially the upper sections. Worth checking out.

Boy Scout Camp Wolfboro on the NF Stan, 1953 (I was 11). Can't remember the rod or reel, but I'm sure I used a Royal Coachman. That was the go-to fly of the day. The fish was perhaps 6".

Next thing you'll be wearing tweeds and a tie. It all goes with the pipe--a Dunhill for sure.

Just saw an episode of Diners, Dives, etc. which featured Dad's Kitchen on Freeport Blvd. Anyone been there? Reviews?
I'll give it another thumbs up. Excellent. And yes, the mushroom cigar is a hit.

Not much in the way of fishing/catching. These past two days are all about smoke, smoke, and more smoke from the fire over by Pollack Pines.
Arrived in Truckee around mid-day hoping to fish the...
Try hwy 4. Lake Alpine is always nice. Nearby are the Highlands Lakes, and the Moke is a nice skinny stream along the road to the lakes. The NF Stan on the road to Spicer is another option. You...
Charlie, good luck on your move. We'll miss you down here.
