Very useful site.
A nice wild fish on the Rogue from last week.

Caught it on the swing after 2 days of fishing.
Bummer to hear the news.
Just placed a mail order with them. Appreciated that they shipped it quickly.
I always tried to stop by and shop when I was in Sacramento or traveling through.
Everywhere I look on line they are out of stock.
Anyone know why the shops seems to be out of stock?
I did find 1 seller on eBay, maybe he bought them all up and cornered the market (joking)...
Thanks for posting

Which river or lake would you build your small fishing cabin near?
Maybe the mid Klamath and hope it becomes epic when the dams come down.

>> every weekend from August-June, and didn't get skunked once
Pretty darn amazing!
I wish there was a ladder over the dams for the wild fish, and someway for the smolts to make it back down.
Because there seems to be so few places for a wild fish to spawn on the Am. (especially where they won't be harassed), I was very surprised to run into one.
Hatchery fish, as I understand, tend...
>> felt soles have gone away
Has anyone heard if California is close to a felt sole ban?
Fished Sat, first pass through the run was with a Muddler.
Second pass I tried a new Commando Groove (intermediate) head and a rabbit strip brass eye 3" sculpin. I wasn't sure how it would work...
I fished a new to me Pure Skagit Commando Groove Intermediate Skagit Head on my 5wt switch rod. It worked will in the wind, which was quite gusty last evening. The intermediate section, did seem...
I am curious. What is the smallest fly that someone has used to catch or try to catch Shad on? Jeff C's patterns are appox. #10.
Has anyone tried small to the extreme, ie midge sized?
I have limited experience fishing Kauai, so take advice with a grain of salt.
I liked the Princeville area best as a base. Anni beach area looked like a good area, note I did not catch...
From the paper "Behavior of American Shad during Spawning Migration in the York River, Virginia" by the American Fisheries Society
It shows that during migration up river Shad eat plant matter and...
I found the rough comparison of these images interesting.

Obviously I cannot speak to Jeff's intent, but when i searched for the foods that Shad eat, I found Mysida; a shrimp-like crustaceans on the list. These are small 0.2 - 1 inches and their general...
Are there any waters in N. Cal that have good yellow perch fishing?

I liked the poem.

I own the book Morris & Chan on Fly Fishing Trout Lakes by Skip Morris and Brian Chan. Definitely one of the better how to fly fish books that I have read.

Jealous? yes
I have caught other fish a R. Seco, but not crappie. (yet)
I think I would eat crappie out of the lake. The water was intended as back-up cooling water and is up stream from the...

What is your favorite fly pattern for crappie at Rancho Seco?
I was able find a remote strip of beach last Sat with my sons. I tried out the fly; my sons fished Gulp Camo Sandworms. They caught a total of 7 Barred surfperch, I was skunked. So I am re-thinking...
