It takes 3 days for a party boat out of San Diego to get to Cabo non-stop (no fishing or searching), and 3 to 3 and 1/2 days to return (possible uphill weather). That leaves two days to fish on an...

Time of the year is EVERYTHING. We talked to Trey, and he ran most of his trips in Jan-Feb, because the boats are cheaper during that time frame. Cheaper for a reason, less fish. Most of his trips...

    Hey Jay

Thanks for posting the flyer to your bulletin board.

I've bought flies from you before and will again for this trip.

    Wahoo on the Fly!

My uncle and I chartered the Shogun out of San Diego to do just that! We have a couple of spots open. The trip isn't until Nov 2018 so you have plenty of time to beg, borrow or steal those 13-15wt...

I've floated it twice that time of year. You picked an odd numbered year to do it, that means less pinks so the rainbow fishing will be better. You'll see some bear, but most of them will be up on...
  11. Anybody been to the Lower Dean River Lodge in Aug/Sept?

I'll be up there this year. Any reason to take a one-hander or it is all Spey?

Any stories? Real or stretched truth?

Should I just stay home and give you the spot?

    Nice fish PaulC!

In regards to you bead sliding, try pegging with a piece of mono (about 150lb) instead of a toothpick. If the mono's the right size it won't slip. I also like the mono because...

    Darian,

Once again your logic evades me. If the fish doen't voluntarily take the bead AND hook in it's mouth, then how does the hook get inside the mouth? You scarcastically complimented me on my...

    Darian,

    Testy? No. Confused? Yes.

You say beading = snagging with no personal experience to back it up, only "unnamed persons". We agree to disagree on this point. I've never beaded in Ca, but...

I have to agree with brad. I've fished rainbows with beads in Alaska for the last 4 Octobers and have very few foul hooked fish. IMHO most of the foul-hooked fish killer stories are from "purists"...

    Yet another fly line question

Is there a big difference between Steelhead Taper and the Nymph taper in either SA or Rio lines?

I'll be using it in Alaska for Steelhead and beading for Rainbows in weights from 6 thru 9....
