happy birthday Andy!
Here's a shot of Scott's dry fly brown from Boca. 12164
I'd avoid Boca for now, it might be fishing good, but I've been seeing maybe 20-30 boats in the morning out there, quite the zoo for a small lake.
Picked up a two foot brown on a carpenter ant dry in early June. 12 in the afternoon. I shared this info with a few of the guys at Specialties. Might have been the impetus for Jim coming up, or...
Jay Cockrum is a great guide for the Pit, I also concur the recommendation of Art Teter for the Fall river. Both great guides.
Its based on a Lefty Kreh/Bob Clouser half and half but I added a little bulk at the head with some schlappen and marabou and put a stinger hook on 65lb braid off the back, got tired of the mackinaw...
which fly are you talking about Mark? The one from my banner?
Little blog post I wrote up after some fishing adventures in the Sacramento area.

Once you learn two handed techniques, it really opens up a new world with your single handed rod. Especially for nymphing, but with streamers and dries too. It just makes directional changes so much...
yea, the Douglas Upstream, 8'8" 4wt for 350$ is a really sweet stick for a spring creek/light trout rod. It's a four weight designed for fishing, not distance casting.
John Sv, was that Fisher 3wt super super slow/soft? I might know where you can get another one. Not your old one, but possibly the same blank.
I hunted around with google and came up with

good luck
Last brown trout I caught in Putah was maybe 15 years ago, doesn't mean they still can't exist. Maybe just really rare.
Its not Sacramento, but Doug Kulick at Kane Klassics in Reno might be able to help you out if you don't find anyone closer.
Its had some issues the last decade or two. There's a faultline directly under the dam face. Minor tectonic movement has caused a crack in the dam face and made it less structurally sound, so they...
Little reminder, tonight's the night, Fishmas Eve! I hope to see you out there. We'll have guide trips, spa days, golf days, fly packs, fly gear, a snow board, reels and multiple fly rods being...
Just a little reminder for this weekends Fishmas Eve event in Truckee for the opening of trout season. We're going to have a ton of fun goodies being raffled off to fund habitat work on the Truckee...
Thanks for the plug Chris, should be a good time!
Working on a fly rod for the raffle as we speak.
Don't get frustrated if you're not sticking fish after fish, it's not generally a river you catch high numbers on, especially if you're new to it. Think quality over quantity.
We're putting together a fun night at the end of the month, the beginning of this years regular trout season. We have multiple fly rods being raffled, a snow board, guide trips, all kinds of goodies....
A simple marabou damsel nymph has always been a great warmwater fly for me. Really effective sight fisher in clear water for bass, carp and bluegill.
I usually have a 7.5-10' length of t-8 or t-11 with loops on both ends coiled in my vest. Just loop it onto the end of your fly line and instant high speed sink tip. Add maybe 5 feet of 0x for a...
Rich Henry used to teach a good friend and mentor of mine Andy Burk about the waters up there. Andy held Rich in the highest regards for his fishing and tying skills. I have a couple steelhead ties...
The river is open from Trout Creek next to Truckee east to the state line. Hwy 80 follows the river. Pull off anywhere you feel like along that hwy stretch and explore. There's a bunch of pulloffs...
