Heading North
My buddy finally retired so we will head up to his Dunsmuir cabin and fish for a few days next week. Will check in with the Ted Fay Fly Shop, but any info for that area would be helpful. Anyone been out to the Pit or over to the Trinity lately?
Thanks,

If he retired he will be spending a lot more than a couple of dazes there

June-ish and Oct/Nov are my favorite times in Dunsmuir.
August usually sucks at most anyplace under 5,000 feet in Nor Cal.
Check with the Fly Shop in Redding, The Trinity Fly Shop in Lewiston and the ed Fay Fly Shop in Dunsmuir.
What you ask a fly shop person is "If you had next week off where would you fish?"

Manzanita was pretty good at weekend if you have belly boat or toon.
Not easy though, good action on top from 8-10am and 7pm to sunset (delicate stuff, single size 14 dry best for me) and under indicator at other times. Very slow middle of day.

Thanks for the info. Have fished a lot up there. Will check around. Hate to drive in the wrong direction if nothing is happening once I get there. I've always had a good time on the Upper Sacto and Upper Klamath, and the Pit too.

Not to try and hi-jack this thread but I also am heading up to the upper sac for a bachelor party next week and the place we are staying at is in lakehead off of Delta rd. I've never really fished that area and am reading mixed reviews, some say its too warm so no good fishing (and harmful for fish), while others say the lower river is actually good this time of year with both bass and trout coming up from the lake into the cooler river water. Anyone have any first hand info? PM's are welcome.

There is no Lake at Lakehead this Year...I have never seen it this Low...
-
At Lakehead " A River Runs Through It". As Frank said, there is no lake even close to lakehead. Cooler waters on the "upper" upper sac will get you into trout, wholly buggers for spotted bass on the lower section of the upper sac.

Hey Jake,
Lakehead is a cool little place. Restaurant, motel, liquor store, cafe, laundromat all in
a stretch of about 100 yards. It's my go to place when fishing the Upper Sac.
Oh and the motel has horseshoes too. Not sure about the fishing right now, but
keep it in mind for fishing - especially that laundromat...comes in handy after a
river dunking!
