Hexagenia mayfly emergence on Lake Almanor has started.
I called Nor Cal guides and instructors, Lincoln and Lance Gray, up at Lake Almanor today.
They said the Hex hatch started a few nights ago.
This is the biggest mayfly in North America.
The nymphs start to wriggle up from the silty bottom of Almanor in the late afternoon.
They said it could go for the next 30 days.
Sadly the fly shop in Chester has closed.
If you are up there and need some flies Lincoln and Lance have a good supply at their cabin.

Some might fish Hal Janssen style with a floating line and really long leader and Hex nymph.
I think Hal uses his gray Janssen Leech as the Hex nymph imitation.

I am still at Lake Almanor and the fishing has been good to great. The fish are keying on the hexes every night. Big fish on dries and nymphs.
Still have a couple dates open.
July 15 and 16th. I have all the equipment. $135 per person. Two people max. Call me or text me.
