Eel River Weekend Report
I floated two days on the South Fork of the Eel this past weekend with my brother. I'm used too bragging after a weekend of fished, but today I'm licking my wounds and eating a big piece of humble pie. We did not touch a fish either day.
We floated from Benbow to PG&E. The water color was perfect. And there were fish in the area. We saw a few guys throwing glow bugs on a Spey rod who hooked 4 on Sunday. I talked to another guy throwing a Spey rod who landed a 6 and a 12 pounder, both on Comets.
It seemd like every time I floated around a turn there was a guy hooked up. I guess it just wasn't my weekend.
One good note was the river was a bit crowded, but everyone seemed to share the water and be pretty respectful. I enjoyed talking to a number of guys on the river this weekend. I just wished I had a few fish stories to be able to tell instead of listening to theirs........ The first zeros of the year have now been entered onto my steelhead punch card.

Just heard another good report from the Eel River.
You have to leave today to catch this spurt, I guess.
I have always showed up late and heard stories.

Don, were you one of the guys in pontoon boats?
-
Welcome to the club, Don. Was up there myself 2-15/17. Water looked perfect and the bait guys were hooking up. One grab myself for two and a half days of hard fishing. Sure was nice being up there, though-beautiful country.

yes I was in the maroon water skeeter.

Don, I was the guy with the two handed rod , we talked about an alternative place to put your boat in. Did you try that? Thanks for being so courteous on the water, I appreciate it.

If I had been in that pontoon boat and ran into Bruce I would have floated right through his water towing the biggest hot shot I could find!
Bruce - maybe Sunday?
