Here's a tip....saltwater fish are measured to the fork,not overall length :)
In Florida we measure "total length".
Florida Fish and Wildlife:
"Total Length is measured from the most forward point of the head, with the mouth closed, to the farthest tip of the tail with the tail compressed or squeezed, while the fish is lying on its side."

We have a lot of big Snook in Florida because we have a "slot limit".
Limit on Snook: One per day and have to be over 28" and under 32"......called a "Slot Fish"....but we don't keep any.

Thanks Bill for the correction re length measurement of fish in Florida....out of interest,is this duplicated in other U.S.States?
Everywhere else in the world it's "to the fork measurement" as far as I'm aware.
