Bill:
This is follow up to your 2017 post-- to show the progress being made. Over $80 million has been spent- funded by Bonneville Power, State & Federal grants plus a lot of private donations.
In early 1990's the Lemhi River went dry from too much irrigation and there were less than a handful of salmon redds. Last year, there were 230 redds .. not a huge number, but % wise a tremendous comeback.
Lemhi Vallley (N E Idaho, 40 miles south of Salmon, ID). Lemhi River is a tributary of the Salmon River. Salmon & Steelhead travel 900 miles from the Pacific Ocean to spawn in the Lemhi River.
I was amazed that for 25 years the the ranchers and locals have been working with environmental and governmental agencies to restore the salmon spawn.
Lemhi Valley is remote with a population of 100. Salmon, ID (pop 3000) is 40miles north and is the Lemhi County seat. Most of the 60 miles of the Lemhi River & its tributaries are on private property. Combine all of those factors and you can understand why the Lemhi does not get much fishing pressure. By car it is a 5hr drive from Boise and 2+ hrs from Idaho Falls.
BTW: Karl Tyler's ranch is for sale at $23 million- 10.5 miles both sides of the Lemhi River plus another 10+ miles of creeks.
