October is a great month for Redfish but in November they get the giants.

Now the big problem is that all the top fly fishing skiff guides are booked up in Oct/Nov.

I heard from on the best that June can be good too.


You need to contact some of these top guides and see if they have someone they are mentoring who actually has open dates.

I think there are Redfish along the lower half of the East Coast and the entire Gulf Coast.


We have some Forum members who go there every November for the Big Ones.

Grew up on Reds in the marsh, great video Bill. Brings back memories. Fishing there is so weather dependent, but if you can't fish you can hit New Orleans and have a good time there on a day off from fishing.

Listen to Don. Fishing here is very weather dependent if especially for us fly guys.

News flash: Don't listen to all the hype about when to fish down here. You can catch big redfish any day of the year when the weather is right.

Tip: If you come down here please please please hire a guide who lives down here full time. Just last week I saw rigs at the launch with plates from FL (way to many of those guys here), TX, NC, GA, and even a guy whose been here all winter from Colorado.

Some of that is there are locations that do not have enough quality guides to meet the needs of the visiting fisherman. That is NOT the case in LA. There are plenty of really good guides here that need the work given all the storms we have had the last few years.

So I encourage visiting anglers to hire local full time guides.
