Does anyone have any experience with this stripping basket? The one knock I've heard of it is that the belt does not go through the basket and the loops that connect the belt to the basket are glued-on and can separate from the basket.
Any opinion on stripping baskets in general with regards to surf fishing? I've heard some say that a semi-rigid net basket is the way to go in the surf because waves will just wash through the net and not push you around as they would while wearing a solid basket.
I find these to work very well. Contoured side to fit your belly or hip. Drains really well. some zip ties poking up to mitigate tangles and an old wading belt and you're ready to go.

Good video with a stripping basket recommendation in it.

I've made a bunch (trial and error) of similar baskets. The SA basket is old school and under engineered. You do NOT need spikes. I use old fashioned tangly monofilament for my heads that don't snarl much in a "hip shooter" style basket. A splash of water now and then is all it takes. I have NEVER found a Velcro that will stick to Ethafoam or Evazote for very long. I've tried rivets but they pull through the foam. Much better to cut slits in the foam and feed a dedicated belt through them. For surf you might want to punch a few holes through the bottom, but that negates the ability to hold a few ounces of water in the basket to lubricate the mono.

I really like the Ahrex (Loon) Flexistripper
