Here is Joe Shirshac who helped me for 50 years.......retired Sacramento City Firefighter.
Joe was a commando wader for Steelhead, shad and trout:

Joe actually has waders on in this picture above Watt Avenue on the American river.
Bill,
That picture of Joe is amazing. Every time I see it, I imagine someone photoshopping
it and attaching a snorkel to Big Joe. What an inspiration!

I think that picture of Joe was above Watt Avenue fishing for Half-pounders in the Fall.
Joe could wade half way across the river and come down the run behind everyone and pick fish up on the far bushy shoreline.
Joe did not cast well in a parking lot but get him up to his arm pits and he could cast a mile.
Joe, Andy and Jason Hartwick and I were all out that morning. We were eager to wet wade as the water temps were warmer than the the air and none of us had brought waders, it was warmer in the water than out! Joe went deeper/further than any of us so he could reach the clay heads he'd hooked a fair few fish in before. Fun day.
That's great........thanks.

I am in Florida and just got off the phone with Joe.
He said the only person he has shuttled on the American recently was Jeff Ching, the Shad Master.
Joe said Jeff had hooked a few nice adults this last week.
Eugene Graham road his bike to our shop when he was about 15 years old and asked for a job?
That was 30 years ago.....
Now he is married, has a home and is a techy guy for a big school district in Sacramento.
He has been out at Waegells Brothers Pond recently getting into some nice bass.
