It is $20.00 to enter the Shad Derby


All you have to do is measure the Shad at it's longest length.

Gary said that in past years 26 inches has won and the longest winner was 28 inches.

About 50 years ago I worked at West Capitol Rod & Gun in West Sacramento.

We had a large walk-in refrigerator and freezer for keeping our bait.

We had an America Shad we kept in the freezer that owner Harley Boley caught from a boat at the mouth of the Feather River.

This Shad was 7# when caught but later it had the moisture sucked out of it from years in the freezer.

When the Shad were running in the Spring and they were talking about a big Shad we would bring it out.
