Go to Kiene's and check cast the rods. If you have never been there you will love it. Great staff and a tremendous selection of rods. Recently I brought two friends there from out of town on two different occaissions and they both bought rods and reels once there. Heck I enjoy just hanging out there.

Yeah, casting rods out in the Kiene's parking lot can be fun, I have enjoyed many hours of casting out there...... but I did work there for 5 years.

Hey Scott, I'd get a 8-8'6" 3wt with a Sage quiet double taper for places that I know you will be fishing...4 wt is ok, but my buddies gets plenty of big fish on their 3wts....I think you'd be happier with a 3.
Longer rods give you better mending ability and shorter rods are better when bush whacking. 8)

I love light weight rods as well. I use a 3 wt on Putah when the flows are low. I've landed quite a few fish around 20", even one that measured 23". I landed them quickly, too, just as fast as I could have with my 5 wt. I use a 7'6" 3 wt for most of my small stream fishing.

a few weeks ago, i landed a 22" rainbow on the truckee with a 3 wt. a 10 incher should be no problem.
