Paul, go talk to an expert. Sunny's Electric Marine in Sacramento knows all about these two motors and a lot more like installation techiniques, required thrust for your boat, battery installation, charger mounting, fuses, etc. He's the acknowledged expert by everyone I know.

You get all that knowledge plus the price for the equipment is the same as at West Marine or Cabela's.

For my money, after having owned both, the Minnkota is miles ahead but talk to a pro before you make up your mind.

Paul,

Having never owned a motorguide unit, I can't do a comparison. My Minn-Kota motor has worked without problems for the last two years. Prior to that the compass card that controlled the autopilot function was subject to failure. That problem has been attended to in the later models with a redesign. I would definetly do buisness with Sunny's in Sacramento. They know their stuff, will give you fast turnaround with competetive pricing. Bob
